United Colleges Group is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Our websites are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to ‘the non-compliances and exemptions’ listed below.
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Videos on our website are missing audio description and/ or text transcript so some of the content is not accessible to blind people. This fails WCAG success criteria 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)) and 1.2.5 (Audio Description (Prerecorded)).
We plan to produce new videos that have both text and audio description. These will be available on the website by September 2025.
On the enrolment form, some content does not reflow when viewed at high browser magnification, which means people with visual impairments may be unable to access some content. This fails WCAG success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
We plan to fix these reflow issues by September 2025.
Our web pages are currently missing a lang attribute so some screen reader users may have issues using our site. This fails WCAG success criterion 3.1.1 (Language of page)
We plan to add a lang attribute to our web pages by September 2025.
The focus order through the main menu is not logical, which may affect some people as they navigate through the links. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order)
We plan to change the focus order through the main menu to ensure it is logical and efficient by September 2025.
The ‘i' icon within the enrolment form is currently not keyboard operable so will be inaccessible to keyboard users. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).
We plan to include this icon in the keyboard tabbing order by September 2025.
Some of our buttons, for example the shopping basket icon, are missing programmatic labels so will be announced in an unhelpful way by a screen reader. This fails WCAG success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
We plan to add programmatic labels to all buttons by September 2025. Any new buttons will be added with programmatic labels as standard.
Some forms field are missing programmatic labels, or the labels are not associated with the interactive page element, so the labels are not announced in a useful way by a screen reader. This fails WCAG success criteria 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value), 1.3.1 (Info and relationships) and 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions)
We plan to add programmatic labels to our form fields by September 2023. Any new forms will be developed with appropriate labels.
The error messaging on our forms is not announced by the screen reader so blind users will be unaware an error has occurred. This fails WCAG success criterion 4.1.3 (Status Message).
We plan to make the error messaging assertively announced by September 2025.
A number of parsing errors having been identified on our website that might interfere with how assistive technology works with the website. This fails WCAG success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing).
We plan to resolve all serious parsing errors by September 2025.
